Why The Return?

To answer why is to also understand the last four years.

In August of 2010, my solo ventures and gigs with other bands dwindled down.  So I decided to put my primary focus on – and officially join – the band Lingo.  Aside from an historical context, existing music, and having a home address for my web portfolio, maintaining a website no longer served a significant purpose, as all my immediate music actions would emanate from Lingo.

What many people don’t know is that when Lingo went on hiatus in July 2011, I stopped playing music and dropped it as a full-time venture.  Face it, when one of your two equal sources of income dries up, the other must take a firmer hold.  After a decade of “living the dream” and back again to square one, it was time for a change, albeit temporarily.

Nearly three months after my last professional gig, a few things happened that brought me back into the fold.  The first was my bud Benji Shanks grabbing me for a private gig in Charlotte, NC.  The second was getting picked up as a keyboard sub for the popular Atlanta band Yacht Rock Schooner.  The third, sprung from my search for a new Lingo drummer, was the initial meeting of what would become Bumpin’ The Mango.

While I still played occasionally with Yacht Rock Schooner and Bumpin’ the Mango got its start, my focus returned to Lingo with their return in 2012.  By the fall of 2013 and going into 2014, some key things started to happen that warranted the return of my website.  I found myself doing more shows with other bands including Like a Locomotive, Parker Smith & The Bandwith (which would morph into the Elegant Bachelors), and Moontower (including work on their studio record).

Whether it was a home party or a private show at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, bands and musicians were once again calling me and inquiring about my availability.  But I still didn’t feel the need to return to my website.  That was until I started building what I didn’t have for the longest time – my own multi-track (mobile) recording setup.

I figured the only way people could know about what I would have to offer now as a songwriter, recorder, engineer and producer was to have a website.  So this past summer, I went back to work on rebuilding my website.

And here I am.  I plan to add a few things here and there, but I am working on two big web-related projectshave two major projects to work on now.  One is the building of a new website highlighting my new recording venture, and the other is a new archive conduit.  I have a ton of shows that I have recorded no one has heard before, so watch for something like that coming down the pike.  It’s a new day, and I’m glad that you folks are a part of it.
