Top 1990 Songs – #3: U Can’t Touch This

Boy, talk about a song that has a place with current events.  How many quarantine videos have we seen with this song?  Also, who old enough to remember this song could forget what this track spawned besides the famous hook?  Baggy pants, the shuffle, “Hammer time!”  This was one of the biggest songs of the early nineties, hands down, and it still carries on today; even my toddler son loves this song.  Hitting #3 in this countdown is U Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer.

Top 1990 Songs – #4: Groove is In the Heart

What could beat out a rock anthem featuring an awesome guitar riff?  A tune with an equally awesome bass riff, great production, a very singable chorus, Bootsy Collins, and a track that is still being played today in clubs and parties.  When this song hits, everyone still jumps on the dance floor.  That’s the power of a great song.  Coming in at #4 is Groove is In The Heart by Deee-Lite.

Top 1990 Songs – #5: Thunderstruck

We arrive now at the top 5 songs turning 30 years old, which was very difficult trying to figure out how to place these tracks.  The first of these is one of the greatest guitar riffs of the 1990s and the kind of song that will make you go 90 down a 55 if you’re not careful.  It also showed the band was not quite done making iconic rock anthems.  The #5 song in this countdown is Thunderstruck by AC/DC.

Top 1990 Songs – #6: Vogue

It’s no surprise that after Like a Prayer, Madonna would bring a song that would define dance and modeling for a generation, and it would probably be one of the biggest songs of her career.  I love the intro, right to when she tells you to “strike a pose”, and the song takes off from there.  It’s hard not to groove this tune arriving at #6 in this countdown; it’s Vogue by Madonna.

Top 1990 Songs – #7: Epic

We now start getting into songs that were pretty hard to place in this countdown.  The first of these tracks is a song that will make you say “What is it?”  Well, it’s also a tune that would open the door for a band like Red Hot Chili Peppers to kick down entirely.  Mixing rap and metal, this song was a huge hit and it’s still known to this day.  Coming in at #7 is Epic by Faith No More.

Top 1990 Songs – #8: The Power

Continuing our dive into the hip hop of this countdown is another great song, even if it was a one-hit-wonder.  This was also another song you could not get away from hearing in 1990 and for years afterward.  Great production and a memorable shout make this track hard to forget.  Take a listen to The Power by Snap!, the #8 song in this countdown.
