Top 1991 Songs – #12: Alive

While another more well-known song from the same album would be released the following year, this song was released in 1991 and qualified for the countdown.  It is still considered by many fans of the group to be one of its ultimate anthems and has never lost its luster over the years.  At #12, from the brilliant Ten album, is Alive by Pearl Jam.

Top 1991 Songs – #13: I Can’t Make You Love Me

Sometimes a song can initially hit and then maintain a slow burn throughout, like this 30 year old track. Featuring the always awesome Bruce Hornsby on piano, this song is just so good and I bet you’ll find yourself unsuspectingly singing along as you listen to it.  This haunting tune is our #13 song in my 1991 countdown – I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt.

Top 1991 Songs – #14: Cream

Before he switched to The Artist, our next entraint was still dishing out great songs while causing controversy.  While many tracks were considered from his great Diamond and Pearls album, including the title track, this one managed to beat them all.  Coming in at #14 is Cream by Prince.

Top 1991 Songs – #15: Motownphilly

No one can deny that this group was one of the greatest R&B acts of the 90s, and they certainly debuted with a bang.  The next entry to the top 20 countdown of songs turning 30 years old this year is an upbeat song introducing us to this group of guys with an amazing ability to harmonize.  At #15 it’s Motownphilly by Boyz II Men.

Top 1991 Songs – #16: Give it Away

Our next song officially was released in 1991 and 30 years later, it’s still got punch.  Blurring the lines between rock, funk and rap, along with a great lip-busting choral hook, this song helped make this band one of the biggest alternative bands in the country.  Coming in at #16 is Give it Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Top 1991 Songs – #17: Baby Baby

Arriving next in this countdown is a song that was a crossover smash by someone who classified herself as a Christian artist.  The album Heart in Motion had many great tunes, all of which were considered for this list, but this song was the biggest track, earning a Grammy nod for Song of the Year. Our #17 song of this 30 year old countdown is Baby Baby by Amy Grant.
