The Friday Factor – Lingo – 5/29/2010

Every band has those certain gigs they remember, from the songs they played, to the vibe prior to the show, to the festivities afterward. This show had all three! We were in the midst of a long week and a half tour of the Bayou, and the meat & potatoes of this trip was a show at Tipitina’s. We were opening for Billy Iuso and Rebirth Brass Band, of whom this show was their 27th anniversary celebration. So, we were just thankful for the opportunity to play this stage and to open for a legendary band like Rebirth. I had …..more →

The Friday Factor – Lingo – 12/17/2010

Lingo embarked on a four-day tour of Florida to promote the band’s newest EP Someday, which we had officially released the week prior. The second show of that run was at a place called Hooligans, opening for Aquaphonics, and it turned out to be one of the band’s best shows of 2010.  We were fortunate to have also gotten video footage of that performance from our bud Adam Firtel, which can be seen here and here and here.  A couple tracks from this show made their way onto the band’s first podcast, too.  It’s kind of amazing to hear the early arrangements …..more →

The Friday Factor – Tommy Talton Duo – 3/5/2010

This week’s Factor Friday takes a different turn from the previous week.  We go from a theatre rock show in the heart of Macon, to an upscale restaurant acoustic show in Acworth, GA.  This was one of the first gigs I did with Tommy Talton as a duo, and we covered a lot of musical territory over the course of 3 sets of music.  Along with his original work and some good story telling in between songs, we dove into the catalog and pulled out tunes from Van Morrison, Buddy Holly, Ry Cooder and James Taylor just to name a …..more →

Debut of The Friday Factor – Lingo 3-26-2010

As a means to get better and better at my craft, and to also supply you with music you haven’t heard yet, I decided to begin this little weekly (bi-weekly if I’m really busy) special I’m calling the Friday Factor.  Over the course of the last decade and a half, I have come across and recorded boatloads of music with many different bands with whom I either shared the stage or performed.  I’ve been cleaning out the CDs and DVDs that have been stored in my studio for some time, and I was amazed at the catalog of music that existed, …..more →

Looking Back…And Ahead

I cannot even begin to describe the multitude of emotions and changes that went on this past year. Truly amazing to think about it all. Let’s see, where do I start?  Well, first, I finally bit the bullet and bought a house.  In the course of the first nine months of living there, my wife and I have actually made the basement into a very nice recording studio.  FactorVision Studios was created just to see if my wife and I could pull it off.  In the end we created a great spot for me to write, produce, mix and master music; much …..more →

Hard Choices

From the moment we exit our mother’s womb, we are not safe. My wife and I gave the second season of HBO’s The Leftovers another chance after a disappointing first season, and we’ve been surprisingly impressed. But it was the season’s first 10 minutes that still hit me the hardest, particularly the scene of a rattlesnake slithering over a defenseless baby while the mother looked for food. It is actually a phenomenal metaphor to describe the world we live in today. Dangers are everywhere, no matter how natural or artificial. One week ago today, Paris was attacked. The attacks were horrific …..more →
