Kris Kolp grew up
in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He started playing music at a young age
beginning with the trombone, trumpet, and piano. Later on in high
school and college, he moved on to guitar, and then harmonica. He
moved to Tallahassee, FL in the early 90s to earn a Computer Science
degree at Florida State University, and along the way played in two
successful Tallahassee bands, "The Fatty Tea Bags", and "Jess Franklin
and the Best Little Blues Band".
Upon completion of
his college
degree, he wanted to create a way to blend his two main talents,
computers/technology and music, into one project. As a result,
Log Cabin Studio was born. The
studio has been continuously upgraded and improved over the last
four years. It is presently build around Digidesign's ProTools, a computer-based, industry standard DAW (digital audio
workstation). The studio is also equipped with high quality analog
preamps, eqs, compressors, and mics. The studio is approximately 600
sq ft and is divided into 3 rooms, each treated to produce pleasing
sonic qualities.
In
late 2001, Kris was asked by Justin Brogdon to sit-in on a few songs
on harmonica and guitar for Full Black Out. Soon thereafter, he
began to contribute to a variety of Full Black Out songs, including
offering the band the use of a couple of his own pieces. The
band has thus dubbed him as a "permanent sit-in," and continues to
offer his own arrangements and tunes to be used by the band.
