Top 1983 Songs – #7 – Thriller

He’s baaaack, this time with the title track of the album that became – for the longest time – the biggest selling album ever.  This track also redefined what it meant to do a music video, where it could be a mini-movie and tell a full story.  Also, the song (while likely not intended) is still one of the best Halloween songs ever.  Dropping in at #7 is Thriller by Michael Jackson.

Top 1993 Songs – #7 – What is Love

Come on…I know you don’t want to…but try as you might, as soon as you hear this song, you’re going to want to move your head sideways.  Lots of songs conjure up multiple images, but sometimes, one song just has one image stuck with it. Yet its popularity today knows no bounds, so much so that this song deserves a place in this countdown, and it arrives at #7.  It’s What is Love by Haddaway.

Top 1993 Songs – #8 – Plush

The grunge era of Nirvana and Pearl Jam helped pave the way for bands like our next entrant.  This band ended up with lots of hits but this song stands out still as probably their best song from their debut album Core.  It’s still played a lot today and sounds just as fresh now as it did back then.  Our #8 1993 song is Plush by Stone Temple Pilots.

Top 1983 Songs – #8 – Holiday

We now arrive at the second of two songs I rediscovered after combing back through the tracks, and boy!, was I positively stunned that I missed this one.  This pop goddess indicated she wanted to rule the world when this track first dropped, and she didn’t stop for years.  When I found the track, I weighed it against all other tracks as I reviewed the countdown, and it kept climbing and climbing until it finally rested at #8 – it’s Holiday by Madonna.

Top 1983 Songs – #9 – Maniac

I hope you got your running shoes on.  Songs tend to conjure up different images, and this next song in this 1983 countdown is going to make you want to run in place really fast.  It is the second of two songs spawned from a movie that have managed to stay atop on their own, and it is just a really good song as well.  The song is instantly recognizable and fun.  Coming in at #9 is Maniac by Michael Sembello.

Top 1993 Songs – #9 – That’s The Way Love Goes

The next entry in this countdown is our 2nd entry from Ms. Jackson and arguably her biggest hit from this album.  If you listen to similar songs before and after this, you realize how much this song actually changed the game for R&B.  The production of such songs were never the same and seemed to follow production path of this track.  And also, my wife and I just love the tune.  At #9 it’s That’s The Way Love Goes by Janet Jackson.
